HTC is very clear that this solution is not a driver for the hardware Imageon idle in some phones.
HTC Many owners have been upset by the poor performance of some devices HTC regarding video playback. DailyTech reported in January that some owners of HTC have joined forces and are threatening a lawsuit class action in the event of poor video performance issue was not discussed.
A stated goal of the owners of HTC was to obtain a driver HTC for ATI Imageon video hardware acceleration present in some HTC phones that are not being used. HTC DailyTech spokesman Eric Lin said that the release of HTC is a solution that will dramatically improve the performance of video in Touch family of devices and TYTN II / Tilt, Mogul/XV6900 devices.
This arrangement will be in the form of a software update rather than a new ROM image. HTC is very specific in stating that this solution is not a driver for the hardware Imageon locked inside the Qualcomm chipset on the devices in question. For one reason HTC not relieve a driver for the hardware Imageon, Lin DailyTech always with this official statement:
Are HTC plan to offer software upgrades that increase functionality feature, in the air-speed wireless and other improvements for some of the phones being criticized, but we do not anticipate including any additional support for video acceleration items cited in the complaints customers. It is important for customers to understand that what this feature to the market is not a trivial driver update and require extensive and time of software development.
HTC will use hardware such as video acceleration ATI Imageon forthcoming in many products. Our users have made it clear they expect our products to provide better viewing experience, and we have included this information in the planning and development of future products.
To cope with the persistent questions about HTC current MSM 7xxx devices, it is important to establish that as a MSM7xxx chipset is a platform with a multitude of features that enable a wide range of devices with varying functionality. It’s common for devices built on platforms such as Qualcomm not to allow each feature or function.
In addition to ensuring that the required hardware is present, freeing capacity expanded as the MSM chipsets 7xxx requires in-depth and time consuming software development, licensing complicated negotiations, any negotiations on intellectual property, licensing fees added, and in the case of devices that are sold through operators, the willingness of operators to include additional functionality. To make an informed decision about headset that suits them best, consumers should look for in the specification itself rather than using the chipset specifications to define what the product can be.
The Imageon video hardware acceleration is present in the devices in question, however, it appears that the reason they were not provided drivers has to do with licensing issues.
