Shipments of LCD televisions exceeded CRT TVs

Report puts Sony LCD TVs as top brand Samsung with a close second

DisplaySearch released a report this week showing for the first time in the history of CRT TV LCD TVs outpacing shipments worldwide in the 4 th quarter of 2007. According to the report, global TV shipments grew 21% quarter to quarter and 5% from one year to another. The total number of televisions shipped nearly 200 million units worldwide.

2007 was the first year that television revenues exceeded $ 100 million in Q4 2007 earnings alone counting for $ 32.9 billion of that figure. DisplaySearch said that share the LCD unit grew throughout the world, but the biggest growth in share screen unit that can be seen in Europe. Developing nations showed the greatest increase in screen quota to the unity of Latin America, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Africa and the rise of a combination 106% every year.

CRT TV shipments fell from 77% of worldwide TV shipments in Q1 2006 and 46% of global shipments in Q4 2007. LCD made progress against the rear projection televisions and plasma TVs as well.

LCD TV share rose from 44% to 65% every year while the plasma is reduced from 40% to 31% and rear projection television has been reduced from 16% to 3%. The massive drop in rear projection is undoubtedly helped by Sony pulling the rear projection of the market in 2007.

DisplaySearch said that Sony is the number one brand of LCD TV in the 4 th quarter of 2007 with 19.5% of the market. Samsung followed closely in second place with 19.3% of the LCD TV market. Philips was a distant third place with 10.1% of the market for LCD with Sharp sitting at the same share of 10.1%. The fifth place was the LG company with a 7.7% market share.
