Google said he did not enter the telecommunications business.

Traffic telecommunications between the United States, Asia, Europe and the Middle East is growing by leaps and bounds. According to TeleGeography, trans-Pacific increased demand for bandwidth of 63.7% annually from 2002 to 2007.

Hosting the growing demand for bandwidth requires more physical connections between the USA And countries around the Pacific Ocean. Google is by many estimates one of the largest consumers of bandwidth not only with its massively popular search engine, but its video services YouTube.

Traditionally, Google bought the form of large suppliers of bandwidth. Information Week reports that Google announced that it will buy a new submarine cable with five other companies including Bharti Airtel, Global Transit, KDDI Corporation, Pacnet and SingTel. The other companies include some of the largest telecommunications companies serving overseas markets.

Google insists that it is not trying to become a player in the telecommunications industry. This statement is in contradiction with some of the things that Google has done recently, like bidding in the auction of spectrum the FCC. Google manager of the procurement network Francois Sterin said in a blog post, “If you are asking if we are in the business of submarine cable, the answer is no. We are not competing with telecommunications providers, but the volume of data that we need to move in the world has grown to the point where in some cases we have exceeded the capacity of the traditional players can offer. Our partnership with these companies is just one more step in ensuring that we are delivering the best possible experience people from all over the world “

The Unit 10,000 km submarine cable partners to cost $ 300 million to install. The construction of the cable is expected to be completed in 2010 and according to the cable Google trans-Pacific will increase available bandwidth by 20%.

The cable unit is not the only trans-Pacific cable being built. Three other undersea cables are constructed including the Trans-Pacific Express cable system, Asia and America Gateway Cable System, and a new cable by Reliance FLAG.

The increased bandwidth and redundancy is undoubtedly necessary in the light of the five submarine cables that were cut in January and February. The cause of a number of cuts is still unknown and sabotage has not been ruled out.
