Developers of games are like flowers, Say EA

Electronic Arts has a reputation among players for swallowing talented game developers only to later convert them into excrement. EA CEO John Riccitiello know, and told Game | Life on the DICE, “which flew at EA, and to an extent I was involved in these things, so I flew.”

Developers victims of the mismanagement of previous EA included once the origin of large systems, Westwood and Bullfrog. “When I spoke with the creators pobló that these companies at the time, they felt as if they were buried and suffocated,” said Riccitiello.

EA Sports is notorious for making small changes, sometimes the most important of which is updating a list each year to their sports games and sale of the entire price. While the model can work in a particular genre, is largely irrelevant in the rest of the world. EA could have imagined buying a developer of intellectual property would only be a winning idea, but now there is evidence that not without the proper inspiration behind it.

“The model of command and conquer,” said the executive director of EA, “is not working. If you think you are going to buy a developer and put your name on the label … that you are making a profound mistake.”

That was the theme of the talk of Riccitiello, at the conference of DICE, informing listeners that introduced a “new model” of “how publishers and developers can work together in the future”, hoping to avoid the mistakes EA in the past.

With EA latest acquisition BioWare and Pandemic, the publisher that paid $ 860 million, the company now has to be sure that not mess with a good thing.

“Creative teams can be considered as flowers in a greenhouse - the temperature of moving up or down a few degrees and the flowers are dying,” says Riccitiello.
