The list of problems for Windows Server Home continue to expand and after a promise of a quick fix, two months later, no end is in sight.
Windows Server Home was aggressively marketed as an attractive solution for consumers of storage for all users, as part of Microsoft’s next generation of Windows products. With a retail price of $ 189 and hardware configurations, such as the HP 500 GB EX470 retailing with the OS for as little as $ 599, the price certainly seems to be right.
Unfortunately, Windows Server Home continues to experience problems of growth. DailyTech previously reported that users of the files being corrupted by the server Windows Start when simply trying to access and store files. Microsoft responded to the corruption of data by stating, “By using certain programs to edit files in a computer that uses Windows Home Server, files can be corrupted when you save the home server.”
Originally, the issue seems relatively similar in the list of the programs affected is relatively small - photo editor, Outlook’07 Office, Office OneNote’03 /’07, Quicken, QuickBooks, and torrents. An employee of Microsoft during the Christmas break, shortly after the issue emerged, wrote in a blog anonymous announcement that Microsoft staff are working full-time during the holidays and the matter would be resolved shortly.
Two months have passed and the problem has not been resolved. Instead, Microsoft acknowledged that the magnitude of the problem is much bigger than originally estimated. Microsoft acknowledged customers numerous reports of corruption in the following programs, despite saying that so far has been unable to repeat the same:
• Apple iTunes
• Software Zune
• Photoshop Elements
• WinAmp
• Microsoft Office Excel
• Mozilla Thunderbird
• Visual Dataflex
The expanded list greatly increases the number of users who may experience the problem. Between iPod and Zune player populations alone, many of them can now be wary of Home Microsoft Windows Server can be used to get to the root of the corruption of data.
