Microsoft cuts price of Vista just a year after its launch to consumers.

Windows Vista has received a sour reputation in the year it has been on the market. Some users complained about the inconsistency of drive and performance issues - among other things - compared with the venerable Windows XP operating system before the wine. Microsoft addressed some of these issues with Service Pack 1, but many consumers and businesses are still sticking with Windows XP.

Microsoft is looking to give customers more incentive to upgrade to Windows Vista by reducing prices in some versions of the operating system. Although the upgrade versions represent less than 10% of the licenses of Vista, two editions will be updated price reductions.

The range-topping Windows Vista Ultimate (complete) will be reduced from $ 399 to $ 319. Windows Vista Ultimate (update) is reduced to $ 219 from $ 259. Finally, Windows Vista Home Premium (update) had its price cut from $ 159 to $ 129.

“We anticipate these changed … provide greater opportunities to sell more autonomous, copies of Windows,” said Microsoft corporate vice president Brad Brooks.

Microsoft said it sold more than 100 million licenses since its launch in Vista consumer end of January 2007. Hopefully for Microsoft, this latest price cut will help improve Vista adoption.

However, there may be an obstacle in the path of consumers still fail to make the change: Windows XP SP3.
