PC Gaming Alliance officially announced

PC Gaming Alliance: Activision, AMD, Dell, Epic Games, Intel, Microsoft, NVIDIA and others

As for the first time last week, the leaders in the PC industry are joining in an effort to maintain and advance the PC games. Announced today, the PC Gaming Alliance is a nonprofit organization that unites the creators of hardware and software, publishers and game developers to keep the PC platform as a viable and attractive for developers.

The PC Gaming Alliance will also seek to maintain competitiveness with the gaming industry by console coordinated marketing, development and promotion of guidelines and recommendations for hardware requirements and to combat piracy, and encourage the exchange of information among members to accelerate the gaming industry PC.

In light of the recent report by NPD that the gaming industry PC only represent 14 2007, the PC Gaming Alliance will also promote the development of accurate and consistent games PC and research the size of the market, including sales over the Internet.

“GAAP members believe that they are stronger and more effective than any member company is only together, and that our shared vision and group effort to improve PC games throughout the world,” said Randy Stude, director of the Office of Games Program at Intel. “Industry forums have proven to promote competition and innovation among member companies and markets grow while improving the user experience.”

“Microsoft believes strongly in the PC as a gaming platform, and the formation of GAAP is a significant step forward for our industry and for PC gamers,” said Kevin Unangst, senior director of the World Games for Windows at Microsoft. “Working together, we have an exponentially greater chance to boost PC gaming experience to new heights.”

While the console market may be stealing some players outside of the PC, PC Gaming Alliance has great faith in the future of their segment. Signature research DFC Intelligence provides that the PC game business will grow more than 80 percent over the next five years, with digital distribution as a factor highlighted.

“This collaboration will provide developers and publishers with a consistent supporter of the population, the adoption of hardware, and revenue measurement and reporting,” said David Cole, an analyst at DFC Intelligence. “An authoritative source of information on the PC as a gaming platform will be a catalyst for growth of incalculable value in the market and improving consumer PC gaming experience.”
